Ancient Worship

To experience Eucharistic Worship that inspires, challenges, sustains, invites and sends forth.  To experience non-Eucharistic forms of worship.

The earliest known document of Christian Worship was written about 80 A.D. In this document, a form of Christian worship called the Holy Eucharist was recorded. Based on Jesus' clear instructions to remember him in the breaking of bread and the drinking of wine, the Eucharist celebrates and remembers our Lord's Last Supper. Sunday after Sunday, we at St. James conduct this ancient form of Worship. If you come to St. James Church, you will worship as Christians have been worshipping for nearly 2000 years.

We at St. James believe that there is a potency and a mystery present in the Holy Eucharist. This mystery cannot be defined in words, but it changes lives. We believe that God is present in the service, in the breaking of the bread, in the majesty of the music, in the connections that we make with one another. The Holy Eucharist is the heart of this church. Everything that we do grows out of this experience of beauty and worship.

Open Minds

St. James offers traditional and cutting-edge Christian education that encourages people to think for themselves, which inspires, supports discovery, and continues renewal of discipleship.

The spiritual life has many dimensions. In addition to prayer and worship, we believe that God asks human beings to reason as part of the spiritual life. At St. James we do not ask you to check your brain at the door. Rather, we pride ourselves in offering a stimulating intellectual environment. We welcome questions, doubt, and disagreement. The clergy do not prescribe behavior, but rather seek to guide parishioners in a dynamic search for the truth that lies within their own hearts as understood through the Anglican tradition.

We offer Christian education for all ages. Children are invited to explore Bible stories and the Sacraments. Youth are encouraged to learn decision-making and how to rely on God. Adults are challenged with ever-changing courses aimed to inspire thought and deepen faith. Courses for all ages are offered on Sunday mornings and a variety of courses are offered on Wednesday evenings, along with supper and fellowship.

Come Inside

People are more lonely and isolated than ever before. As neighborhoods are disappearing and the Internet becomes the supreme mode of communication, human beings are in desperate need of real, hands-on community. We welcome all people to St. James. We invite those who are seeking God, those who are searching for meaning, even those who don’t quite know why they walk through our doors. We hope to be known as one of the friendliest, warmest, most welcoming communities in the city of Wichita.

Make a Difference

It is our goal to minister to the hurts and needs of the parish, the people of Wichita, the Diocese and the world.

The St. James Community will be there in the most important moments of your life; from birth and baptism to marriage and family life. We care for the ill, the dying and the bereaved. We visit the sick and infirm. We offer support groups and spiritual direction. We serve Christ in our very church, in the city, and in the world. Our special relationship with Episcopal Social Services includes providing volunteers and funding to assist the organization. We support numerous Outreach organizations worldwide. Once a year we host two communitywide events -- The Old English Tea and The Oyster Dinner. Each event raises thousands of dollars, which we then donate to charity.

Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers all worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.
John 4:23-24
