Our Music

The offering of sacred music in worship at St. James is a privilege. We gather as choirs, instrumental groups, and soloists to lead our congregation into the beauty of holiness which is worship. We joyfully offer our gifts and discipline as a way of praising God.

There is a place for you. Please contact David Cason so that he may welcome you into our music ministry team.

Headed by Choir Director David Glasmann and Choirmaster/Organist David Cason, the St. James Choir provides music at the 11:15 a.m., Sunday service. The Choir is a varied group of volunteer singers, supported by several auditioned section leaders. Long time members welcome new recruits fully into our round of work, prayer, and parties. The normal season begins Wednesday following Labor Day and concludes on Pentecost Sunday.

Surrounding all that we do in music, the welcoming of children into music ministry is of prime importance at St. James. We strive to be the most rewarding and productive avenue of choral music for your child! All grade school children are invited to consider making the Choristers a part of their life at St. James. Choristers are a choir of children 2nd grade and up that perform during the 9:00 a.m., Sunday service.

St James Musicians Guild meets seasonally throughout the year to manage instruments used during liturgy and plan possible concerts. If you play strings, woodwinds, brass, etc., you might find an avenue to form a small ensemble for music at church. In the past, we've enjoyed string ensembles on Christmas Eve, and instrumental duets and solos of all kinds throughout the year. We will only know if we have a full orchestra if you notify us to be a part of this developing creative endeavor.

Our bell choir, the St. James Ringers, enjoys ringing a 3-octave set of Schulmerich hand bells and participates periodically in worship services, including Christmas Eve. Some ringers are former and current choir members and some join to enjoy music in a way other than singing. In addition to using hand bells to ring anthem arrangements, we use change ringing in procession, and will begin to use bells with psalms. Join the Ringers for a colorful musical experience.

During the 5:30 p.m. Sunday Celtic service, the flute and harp are a part of the beautiful worship service.
