In the 30 years or more that I have been a member of St. James, I have participated in many activities of the church. For many years I was very active in Daughters of the King and ECW, serving in the various offices and chairman positions. I served for several years as Reception Chair, Social Chair, and Olde English Tea Chair. I also held ECW offices on the Diocesan level. I attended a number of Stewardship Conferences and helped work on many Stewardship drives throughout the years. I have had three years of Education for Ministry Training, sang in the choir, served on the Board for the After School Program and have been in the morning Bible Study group for many years. I am a cancer survivor and currently serve as facilitator for the "Footprints" cancer support group. I am the church archivist. About 10 years ago I served three years on the Vestry. This will be my third year to serve as Senior Warden.

My wife Jayne and I joined St. James approximately 41 years ago. Fr. Young was rector then and was one of my favorite priests. I served as EYC leader when Fr. Pierson was assistant rector and loved working with the teen-age youth group for several years. I also served on the vestry with Fr. Kenneth. My family, which consists of my three children, Darcy, DeAun and David were baptized, grew up, and married in St. James. All my grandchildren (10) have been baptized in this church and consequently I have so many wonderful family memories here. Because of this my love and support for St James is very strong.

I am an Architect in private practice and I am also the Executive Director of the Allen-Lambe House Museum, the Kansas Cultural Trust and the Wichita Center for the Arts. I have been a member of St. James since 1966 and have served on the Vestry three times. In addition, I have served on the Arts and Memorial Committee, Library Committee and been a member of the former St. James men’s group, The Brotherhood of St. Andrew. Along with my wife Nelda, we have both taught second and third grade classes in the Christian Education Department. I currently chair the Capital Campaign Building Task Force Committee. What do I love about St. James? The overall architecture quality of the church along with the spiritual quality of the nave and chapel – and most important the shared belief in the Nicene Creed with the parishioners and the Episcopal church at large.

SJEC Jeanne Kroker
Jeanne Kroker

I am a lifelong Episcopalian, raised in the Diocese of Newark, in New Jersey. I moved to Kansas in 1991 as a chemical engineer, but have switched careers to become an Internal Medicine physician in solo practice in Wichita. I have been a member of St. James since 1994 and was married here in 1997. I have two children, Jenny and Matthew, who have loved and benefited from all of the children's programs at St. James, including the nursery, Sunday School, Children's Chapel, the Christmas Pageants, and all of the special family events. I have served as lay reader for more than 7 years and have played oboe occasionally for services throughout the past decade. I have helped with the last five Olde English Teas, I have helped with parish events and dinners, I have been a member of the original and the revived mother's groups, and I serve as a fill-in usher. I have really enjoyed watching the expansion of the children's programs in this parish in the last 5-6 years and I truly cherish the sense of community that St. James offers to its congregation. I am grateful for the supportive caring so many church members have shown me and I will work hard to promote those programs and vision goals that sustain this sort of support and embracing of all parish members.

St. James is like a second home to me and couldn't imagine what life would be like without it. My favorite thing about the church is the people. They are the most loving and caring people you will ever meet. I also like being involved in youth group; we learn so much and all of us are really close. I believe that I will always be involved with this church.
