Giving Options Whether You’re In Person Or Worshiping Online
Stewardship and giving does not have to stop while we observe periods of isolation where we do not have the ability to live out our normal routines. Our staff is still working hard and continue to be paid, and we still have basic expenses that have to be paid.
Pledge payments can be paid online with a credit card or linking your bank account or by clicking Give Now. Checks can also be mailed to the church, or you can continue to give during the offertory time at worship if that is your preference.. If you would like your donation to go to something other than Pledge Payments, please make sure you write that in the memo of the check.
If you find that you are unable to meet your annual pledge for whatever reason, please contact the church office, preferably by emailing our Bookkeeper. Also, if you have an automatic payment established for your pledge payments and decide to stop making them, you can manage your payments using Realm, under the Giving menu. If you need assistance, please contact the Bookkeeper – we are happy to help!
New Provisions That May Affect Your Charitable Giving This Year
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act, or CARES Act, signed into law on March 27, 2020, includes three great opportunities to give to a charity. 1) Beginning in 2020, donors can deduct $300 in charitable cash contributions from their gross income even if they take the standard deduction on their 2020 tax return. Donations from appreciated securities and gifts to donor advised funds or supporting organizations, do not qualify. 2) Donors who do itemize their deductions can now deduct charitable gifts up to 100% of their income. Prior to this, only 60% was allowed. Again, this is only for gifts of cash and only be made directly to charity. 3) The CARES Act eliminates required minimum distributions (RMDs) from many retirement plans in 2020. Some donors have been using their RMDs for tax-advantage charitable gifts by making a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) directly to charity. The CARES Act still makes it possible for donors who are 70 1/2 or over to contribute up to $100,000 directly to a charity without paying tax on the distribution. Your brokerage or tax accountant should be familiar with these rules, so talk it over with them if you think these ideas may benefit you in 2021.
